How to acquire a temporary work visa

If you need to travel to the United States for work, you will be required to acquire a temporary work visa. This is an important legal document that provides you temporary access to the country. That's why you need to apply for the temporary work visa well before you are scheduled to visit New Orleans so you don't wind up missing the project timeframe.

A person who needs to enter the country for work alone obtains a visa that is not considered permanent or indefinite. That's why it is known as a temporary work visa. The visa will last only for a fixed period of time and once it expires, you are required to leave the country immediately.

The prospective employer is required file a petition on your behalf with the U.S. Department of State's U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services agency (USCIS) before you can do anything to obtain a visa. The petition must then be approved by the agency before you will be issued the visa to work in the United States.

Once notification is made that the petition filed by your employer has been approved, you can then apply for the visa online, which is Form DS-160. The application has to be completed online and then the confirmation page has to be printed out and brought with you to the interview. You also must upload a photo of yourself to go with the application.

Don't try to come to the United States unless you have a valid temporary work visa or you could find yourself sent back to your home country, even if you are only visiting for your job.
